Dispersion Modelling
Dispersion modelling involves entering component and mass release rate of emissions sources into the AERMOD modelling package along with information on exit velocities and temperatures. This is combined with meteorological data and the dimensions and location of any obstructions to dispersal such as buildings, topography and terrain. All of this information is then modelled geographically using digital maps of the relevant areas. Ground level concentrations of pollutants are then calculated which can be directly compared against regulatory limits including those at sensitive receptors such as nearby dwellings, schools or conservation areas.
NWSS uses dispersion modelling as a solution to issues including:
- Existing plant compliance
- Justifying preferred methods of best available techniques
- Assessing the impact of new plant
- Proving the impact of plant modifications
- Response to complaint episodes
- Odour nuisance modelling
- Uncontrolled release from vents, tanks and flanges
